In a very tough season Riga Angus held their 4th Annual Yearling Bull Sale on Thursday 11th April. With the seasonal conditions in the local area continuing to deteriorate by the day their was hesitation from buyers. However long-term clients continued to show their support and several new clients from further afield including SA, NSW and Gippsland who were able to select from 42 bulls offered for sale on the day.
A top of $5,000 was achieved twice to long term clients of Riga Angus. K Finger & Sons of Moyhu purchased Lot 21, Riga Perfect P73 who provided a special opportunity for our clients to purchase some outstanding Landfall Angus genetics. In 2018, after seeing Landfall Joyle D30 in the flesh and being impressed by her soft smooth skin, maternal qualities, structurally correct conformation and admirable longevity we purchased a flush of hers to EF Complement. Of 11 embryos 9 live calves were born which we are retaining the daughters and using the remaining yearling bulls in our own program. K Finger & Sons also purchased a further 2 bulls from their operation at $3,000 each. The other top priced bull, Lot 7 Riga P19 went to Black on Green of Maindample. Riga Pantamime P19 was one of several excellent Wattletop Franklin sons in the sale who was in the top 5% for all indexes, scrotal, growth and gestation length.
Other Wattletop Franklin G188 purchases on the day included Double Scotch Pastoral from SA taking home Lot 32 for $4,500 who has excellent temperament, top 1% scrotal, top 10% growth and NFI-F coupled with growth and low birth weight. The Thompson Family from Leongatha also purchased a son with great growth, calving ease and top 5% NFI-F for $4,500 and the Campkin-Smith Family at Tarwin Lower purchased Lot 20. The remaining bulls sold in the range of $3,000 to $4,000 to average $3,535 with a 50% clearance with ongoing bull sales post auction.
